SPECIFICATIONS, NOTES, AND UPGRADES:

GENERAL CONDITION:

Considering that it is a 38 year old truck, the classic Datsun 521P power-train and chassis is in good mechanical condition. The 2.0 liter L20B engine has good compression and pulls significantly better than the original 1.6 liter motor. The rebuilt transmission and clutch work well. The steering links/bushings/idler were replaced when I first took possession in 1983 and are still "tight", but the king-pin bushings are worn and are candidates for replacement. The toe-in is set to about 3/8", which compensates pretty well for the king-pin bushing wear, but some new bushings are recommended for precise tracking.

The interior trim is "rough" but serviceable. The original padded dash has mostly disintegrated, so it is covered up with a fitted dash-mat. Door panels need some new vinyl covering to look good. The body would also qualify as "rough" and has quite a few dings/dents/scrapes here and there. The previous owner used the truck for farm chores, hunting, and fishing—so we’re not talking about a pampered "show vehicle" here. The paint is original, with some surface rust on the roof and bed, yet it still shines up nicely and the classic Datsun pickup looks pretty good from a distance. The surface-rusted areas have been sprayed with a rust-converting clear primer to avoid damage. Some body work and paint would definitely be needed for good close-up appearance though. The tailgate has rusted through at several spots along the bottom edge, but it is functional and still proudly displays the "DATSUN" logo in big white letters. A salvage-yard tailgate might be a good way to ease the restoration task here. An aftermarket rear bumper was removed/discarded years ago due to its deteriorated condition. Finally, some deteriorated weather-strips around the windows could use some new plastic/rubber……

SALES INFORMATION:

I am selling my favorite truck of the last 26 years because I no longer need it, have no good place to store it, and my wife and son say it's time for it to go!  Also, I’m getting older and lack the energy to complete the restoration that it deserves, so I’m looking for an enthusiastic buyer who appreciates the value and utility of these great little early Datsun pickups who will hopefully complete the restoration project I have envisioned for so long.

The truck recently earned a current Texas Inspection Sticker (expires 04/2010), so it can be reregistered/re-titled and driven without delay. It is also currently registered/insured and can be demonstrated on the public roads.

I am asking only $900 (far less than the parts alone are worth!).
